Radio Luxembourg – ‘Diwrnod efo'r Anifeiliaid EP’ (Peski) Released 19/03/07

Let’s start at the very beginning - it’s a very good place to start. Don’t immediately think what’s the point in listening to Welsh language stuff. If that’s the case you might as well cross off Serge Gainsbourg unless you have a qualification in French. Formed in 2004 from the remnants of much loved and school aged Mozz and having enjoyed success with ‘Pwer Y Fflwr and ‘Os Ch’in Lladd Cindy’ the boys present the first of two planned EP’s.

Being Welsh or being bilingual isn’t the only reason to check out the Aberystwyth band. If you enjoy listening to mellow happy pop and don’t get worked up if you sing the wrong words then the melodies in this EP will see you through.

Anyhow, ‘Mostyn a Diego’ (Mostyn and Diego) is in English. It’s a quirky little opener that is more than a little Gorky Zygotic Mynci in flavour. Which isn’t at all surprising since they work with Euros Childs. Meilyr Jones has a gentle innocence to his voice which makes even the most baffling sounding lyrics sound  beautiful and soon you will be listening and picking up fragments of welsh language like a lost childhood. The eclectic choice of instruments including brass and kazoos and considered production make this EP as warm and inviting patchwork quilt.

‘Eli Haul’ (‘Sunscreen’) is infectious fun urging people to open their eyes and stop sleeping, Even non speakers of Welsh have been witnessed spontaneously singing along to the chorus. All in all it’s a very sunny little EP featuring  the joys of life, animals rising against  immorality of zoos and the love of a lady. If only Mr Pritchard’s welsh class would have been half as fun.
