Linkin Park – ‘What I've Done’ (Warners) Released 07/05/07
You'd think that years of success, collaborations with Jay-Z, headline slots at festivals across Europe and legions of screaming fans would have cheered Linkin Park up a bit. But no, they're just as angst-ridden as ever. Angry Mike Shinoda doesn't play his usual rapping role here - the vocals are left to singer Chester Bennington - but otherwise, it's familiar 'Park territory, if a little lighter on the riffs. So what has Chester done? We don't get to find out but apparently he's feeling guilty about it. Guilty enough to write a whole song. Not that bad a song, but with the talent of Rick Rubin behind the production, fans might have hoped for something a bit less bland.
