Rotary Ten can’t quite decide if they’re more Death Cab than Arctic Monkey or more Libertine than Placebo, but that’s okay— ‘We Travelled Without Mentioning It’ fulfills its promise by skipping from genre to genre with relatively little (and relatively listenable) fuss. Chalk it up to lead singer James Trafford’s versatile vocals— from emo squeal to Sheffield zeal in ten seconds or less, cheekily borrowing words from one line to the next— or Rory Leonard’s jaunty and jittery drumming, which instigates the song’s urgent opening before stutter-stepping to a fragile late-in-the-game breakdown. It’s a right number all ‘round.
