Less than a week since the good folk at the Glastonbury festival reminded hopeful applicants to renew their photos, the rumour mill has sprung into action with Kylie Minogue being touted for the Sunday teatime Legend’s Slot.
We have to say how impressed we are with the speed at which Kylie’s name has been put forward. And why not? It’s already been confirmed that the performer for that section of the bill is a “non-British female”.
If it’s true, then Kylie will follow in the footsteps of Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Barry Gibb, Leonard Cohen, Shirley Bassey, Brian Wilson and Al Green, all of whom have delivered storming Sunday teatime sets at the festival’s celebrated Pyramid stage.
Kylie Minogue had to pull out of her 2005 Pyramid Stage headlining slot when she was diagnosed with breast cancer a month before the event.
Of course, it should all be taken with a huge pinch of salt. An anonymous insider – who else? – is quoted by The Sun as saying:
“Kylie had to pull out of Glastonbury in 2005 just a month before she was due to appear so this performance will be a very emotional and poignant moment for her. She jumped at the opportunity to appear next year and it is the perfect way to celebrate her career.”
If true, it’ll actually be Kylie’s second appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. She joined Scissor Sisters for a guest slot in 2010.
Musing over a potential Glastonbury slot earlier this year, Minogue said: “When I was supposed to do it I think I would have been the first solo female to headline in however many years it was, so I was really proud of that at that time. Obviously it didn’t happen.
“So yes, it would be amazing and very emotional to be standing there and doing what I didn’t get to do all those years ago, for sure.”
