It’s possible that the one big mistake we made in conceiving the Gigwise Pintcast was allowing each subject of ours to choose the ‘pint’ they want to consume. That’s how we ended up searching for red vermouth in the middle of the working day, anyway. Though it’s not the nicest of cocktails though (fight us), that we were drinking Negronis with musical genius and all-round nice guy Nick Allbrook made things a lot easier to stomach.

For this episode, we met with the Pond frontman to chat about the band’s new album Tasmania, coming 1 March. It’s an album that Allbrook is creatively happier with than he’s perhaps ever been, and for good reason: it’s definitely the band’s best LP to date. Tasmania was co-produced and mixed by the band and Kevin Parker (or ‘Kev’ as Allbrook calls him) of Tame Impala, a band Allbrook used to play in as a touring member.

Other topics covered include the ‘Dig’-ish communal nature of early living arrangements, ending up in Thai intensive care for alcohol overconsumption, and why early Pond album Frond “wasn’t really that good.”
