Fat White Family have unveiled new track, and video, ‘Tastes Good With The Money’, ahead of the release of their third album, Serfs Up!

In a picturesque, quintessentially British countryside home, chino-clad men wearing immaculate boating jackets frolic around a pristine white piano, gulping cocktails out of crystal glasses and fervently laughing, think Monty Python meets Hot Fuzz. An unrecognisably immaculate Lias Saoudi, hair slicked back and tucked behind his ears, flounces towards the camera, and then it all kicks off. A ball hits his eye and a fountain of blood spurts out, starting a gory sequence of events in which hands get chopped off in the piano lid, arms get yanked off, and members of the elite upper class end up impaled on tennis rackets. And yet, they still continue to laugh amidst the splurging blood and general unravelling of the previously sophisticated garden party setting.

The video was directed by Roisin Murphy, who was so excited to work with the band, after being a massive fan for years. She comments, “The idea of referencing Monty Python partly came out of the somewhat absurd and confusing political landscape that we are now living in Britain, Python seems prescient. The British laughing at themselves, a certain kind glee even in the loss of empire, singing as the ship goes down, well it just seems so...of the moment. There is this deep ambivalence to the establishment that resonates with the Fat Whites own irreverent world view.”

It’s a brilliantly ridiculous, well executed political comment on the bewildering situation we’re faced with. Baxter Dury also features on the song, adding a characteristically deadpan spoken word section to add to this political narrative. ‘Tastes Good With The Money’ is a ghastly, gruesome stormer of a video and a great indicator of the tunes to expect from the forthcoming album, landing 19 April via Domino.
