Ignoring the constraints of trying to record how the band sound live has been of great benefit in this instance

Chile’s Föllakzoid are famed for their kraut-psych-dark wave sound, and thanks to an emphasis on recording single takes with the full band, they have generally had quite a '70s atmosphere on record. Perhaps Neu! are among the bands you could ally close to them.

But on the new cut they released this week 'IIII', they've ditched this punk-inspired ethic of representing the live sound for something much more time-consuming. Without losing any of their original appeal, they've built a track with a more three-dimensional feel than their previous music. It's an absoutely breathtaking 13-minute listen.

'IIII' is taken from a forthcoming album titled I (out 1 August via Sacred Bones), which took three months to construct "out of 60 separate stems - guitars, bass, drums, synthesizers, and vocals, all recorded in isolation."

Speaking of the album, which we anticipate will be absolutely incredible if this single is anything to go by, guitarist and singer Domingæ Garcia-Huidobro says: "We found our sonic and metric identity even more in these songs than in our previous attempts."

Adding further comment in a press release, he states:

"We invite you to join us in sharing the experience of being led by this non-rational, sonic artform and its energy. It is also an invitation to connect once again with your inner master and his intuition, erasing the systematic rationalization that usually follows creative forces when perceived, to guide you on this holographic simultaneous simulation where reality is rooted in."

Sounds like he's been hanging around with Matt Bellamy.
