DIIV have a new album titled Deceiver coming out on the esteemed Captured Tracks label on 4 October. 'Skin Game' is the lead single and can be heard today on Gigwise below.
Layered, breathy reverb-tinged vocals intertwine with a wall of sound cooked up from noise, fuzz, and melodic guitar lines. It's a sound honed by the band in collaboration with outside producer Sonny Diperri (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Protomartyr).

“It’s an imaginary dialogue between two characters, which could either be myself or people I know,” says Cole of 'Skin Game'. “I spent six months in several different rehab facilities at the beginning of 2017. I was living with other addicts. Being a recovering addict myself, there are a lot of questions like, ‘Who are we? What is this disease?’ Our last record was about recovery in general, but I truthfully didn’t buy in. I decided to live in my disease instead. “Skin Game” looks at where the pain comes from. I’m looking at the personal, physical, emotional, and broader political experiences feeding into the cycle of addiction for millions of us.”
The album is their third for Captured Tracks and follows 2012 debut Oshin and the 2016 record Is the Is Are.
DIIV are most commonly associated with frontman Zachary Cole Smith (lead vocals, guitar) who was in a relationship with Sky Ferreira and modeled with Saint Laurent. DIIV is completed by Andrew Bailey (guitar) who has been in the band since day dot; and Colin Caulfield (bass), and Ben Newman (drums) who've been in DIIV since 2013 and 2015 respectively. Devin Ruben Perez has left the band, and they now operate as a four-piece.
