More about:

IDLES have released a new video for their single ‘Mercedes Marxist’, their first release of 2019. It’s joined by a brand new B side ‘I Dream Guillotine,’ and both tunes are available to purchase on 7” vinyl now.

The ‘Mercedes Marxist’ visuals are a deeply-relatable visit into the world of a city worker who is literally banging his head on the wall - or any surface he comes into contact with. For the life of an office slave, then, that’s: the desk, the flat fridge, the supermarket till, the car, and of course, the pub table. See it here:

The anger-fuelled tune - which rails against the social order, and exhibits rather less hope than we expect from an IDLES song - is joined by the percussion of the office worker’s head as it beats against multiple surfaces. Funny and melancholy in equal measure, the visuals mirror a Britain mired in elections and austerity.

As for ‘I Dream Guillotine’, here we have another politically-motivated song powered by a heady cocktail of fury, sweet licks, and a return of some much-needed hope - hope that we’ve come to expect from IDLES after their Mercury-nominated album Joy As An Act of Resistance. 'I Dream Guillotine' is a brilliant new addition to the growing IDLES discography.
