More about: Sam Fender
Born-again Boss Sam Fender has dropped his final album single ahead of the release of Hypersonic Missiles this month. ‘The Borders’ is Fender’s favourite single on the LP and is a gleaming, Americanised pop gem.
Dappled with light, spangled touches of guitar before launching into arena rock territory, ‘The Borders’ soars with Fender’s powerful vocals, as he tells the story of a wrenching coming of age. His nostalgic narrative style is a delicious resurrection of near-dead tropes ordinarily kept alive by the old men who pioneered them.

The single, which dropped today on Polydor Records is a 5+ minute long heartland rock tune, with the heartland concerned here being Newcastle’s North Shields. It touches the sky with stadium-appropriate guitars and a speeding saxophone solo, all with Fender’s powerhouse voice at its centre.
Hypersonic Missiles comes on 13 September via Polydor Records, with an extended - mostly sold out - UK tour following in winter.
