Beirut - 'Elephant Gun'

Beirut’s latest release has sent a confident message to all other ambitioned musicians, past and present: “Beat that”. ‘Elephant Gun’ manages to reach all the highs that the material on ‘Gulag Orkestar’, Zach Condon’s debut album, managed to reach. And in various parts of the song, it gets even higher. From the starting point, the sounds of the shimmering mandolin gradually fall behind to horns and euphoric vocals, giving the party feel. Condon steps up to claim “If I was young, I'd flee this town, I'd bury my dreams underground”. Ironic somewhat for someone that has managed to do what he’s done in the past 12 months. He’s become an iconic figure, one full of magnitude and excellence. And ‘Elephant Gun’ doesn’t just highlight this, it also takes him to a whole new level. The anticipation for his new album due in October, has just reached its peak.
