The new track is a hand-clapping bop with skyscraping guitars

Sophie and the Giants, the invincible indie rockers with the power of pop hooks behind them, are back with a track that has all the hallmarks of a chart-topper. 'Runaway' was released today on Virgin EMI.

Ethereal and staccato in its classic pop intro, 'Runaway' soon erupts into an infectious indie chorus that will surely become a staple at their electric live shows over the coming months.

Its soaring melody coasts atop skyscraping guitar and a hair-shaking rhythm section before dissolving into a hand-clapping bridge perfect for the big stages this band will surely be playing within the next couple of years. Hear 'Runaway'.

With vocals reminiscent of Florence Welch, and instrumentals that sound something like Yonaka spliced with the pop band of the future, Sophie and the Giants are one of Gigwise's solid Ones To Watch.

In a press release, vocalist Sophie Scott said: "It tells an honest story about running away from love and relationships in order to make something for yourself...‘Runaway’ ultimately celebrates how I found the strength to let go in order to thrive on my own"
