More about:

Don’t try to pigenhole PYJÆN. Yes, they call London’s ever-flourishing jazz scene home, but they bring a broad range of influences into their sound, with each track they release highlighting a different part of their repertoire. Making music that intertwines funk, improv jazz, hip hop, neo-soul and Afrobeat sounds to name but a few, they’ve earned themselves slots at legendary jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and Vortex Jazz Club, and taken to the stages at the likes of Glastonbury and Love Supreme.

Today, we’re premiering the first single from their forthcoming EP, entitled ‘Gold Plated’. Lacing jazz-soaked, honeyed sounds from guest vocalist Odette Peters with spoken word influences, the single explores the narrative of being tricked into thinking someone was different. Tune in below:

Peters’ unique vocal adds volumes to the track, while a damn solid rhythm section acts as the glue for the single, and a bass-heavy intro sets the tone. Their collective musicality shines through, and truly does flow like liquid gold, with effortlesssly soulful expression.
