Step aside, Brits who are inconcievably obsessed with John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'. Bonafide Americans Whitney have covered the song alongside Waxahatchee. They also share a mellow take on SWV's 'Rain'

It's been a year since the release of Whitney's sophomore album Forever Turned Around. With these two covers, the duo reemerge as one of our favourite Americana dream-spinners.

John Denver's classic keeps its chipper melody but melts into the distinctive tones of the Chicago band and the vintage tones of their guest vocalist - an inspired choice!

On the cover, the band said of Waxahatchee's inclusion: "We knew that Katie was destined to sing this with us. We both heard her live and she has this classic country vibe. Once we heard her voice on it, it was pretty much magical. Her contribution is perfect."

Whitney have reportedly made covers an important part of their writing and performance process since their inception in 2014.

They also share a cover of SWV's classic 90's R'n'B tune 'Rain.

Both covers are out now on Secretly Canadian.
