You know the drill: bright, major guitar sounds sprinkle their joy-spiking magic across three-and-a-half-minutes of catchy vocals and bursting percussion. Done well, indie can be truly ecstatic, and Marsicans are one band who always manage it.
'These Days' lifts you right out of your body and into a cloudless sky, free of worries. Tune in below:
As is so often the case, 'These Days' is beautific in its melody, but serious in its subject matter. On the new single, bassist and vocalist Rob Brander said: “‘These Days’ is a song about my relationship with communication in the modern world. Without really realising, I had started using the Internet as a window for almost all my communication and information. I found myself staring at my phone more and more, whether it was to talk to friends, read the news, or even to be creative.
The song isn’t necessarily a damning indictment of technology. It’s more about pointing to the rapid changes in human connection and asking the question ‘Is this okay?’”
Ursa Major arrives 14 August via Killing Moon Records.
