After a large backlash following Monday’s (31 August) male heavy first line-up announcement, Reading and Leeds Festival have added a further five names to their 2021 bill. This evening (2 September) Charli XCX, Sigrid, Yungblud, Neck Deep and Jack Harlow have all been confirmed to play across the weekend, ahead of tickets going on sale tomorrow morning (3 September).

Charli XCX, who appeared on the Main Stage last year, will make a welcome return, hopefully high up on the bill, following the release of her lockdown-created and Mercury nominated new album How I’m Feeling Now. After last year’s performance we said: “Setting the bar for the rest of the pop acts at the festival, Charli XCX throws herself around the Main Stage with sweat dripping from her pristinely styled hair. Despite the mass exodus after Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’, the song that shot Charli to internet pop sensation status, the crowd is the wildest so far today. She holds her own on a stage that could easily swallow a solo performer running through hits like ‘Blame It On Your Love’ and ‘Boys’.”
Elsewhere on the bill, Yungblud will also return for another year. Following his Main Stage show last year we said: “Continuing the punk theme, Yungblud is here to spread his word (very loudly) to his band of ‘Underrated Youth’. The young pop-rock renegade has inadvertently become something of a cult leader in the last couple years, garnering one of the most insane fan bases in the industry. There’s an incredible, genuine connection between him and his audience - one of the most boisterous of the weekend so far - as he frantically works his way round songs ‘21st Century Liability’, ‘Loner’ and ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’, before bringing Machine Gun Kelly out for their collaboration ‘I Think I’m OKAY’.”
These new names join the previously announced Catfish and the Bottlemen, Disclosure, Liam Gallagher, Post Malone, Queens of the Stone Age and Stormzy who are due to headline the 2021 event.
