More about: Blossom Caldarone
Blossom Caldarone has revealed herself to be our new Lily Allen/Kate Nash-style queen with her comeback single 'Girlfriends' and its charming video today. A definite slow-burner, it builds from folk to all-out trainers-with-ball gown pop.
As well as a bit of an earworm, 'Girlfriends' also airs an important issue: that of men's inability to speak their feelings. Posing as a therapist to a series of men in the accompanying video, Caldarone asks "is that what girlfriends are for?"
“Girlfriends is a song based on my experiences with men I am close to, and how their fear of speaking out about their difficult feelings has affected our relationships. It let my ex boyfriend and I down and it’s an issue that doesn’t discriminate; men of every age seem to, and often do, suffer from its wrath. Male mental health is a huge problem and one that requires attention and time. Girlfriends is just a story that gives the issue a platform” she explained.
It follows ballad 'Less of a Girl' from earlier in the year.
