McKinley Dixon of Richmond, Virginia is teasing a brand new album today with the hair-raising beauty of 'make a poet Black'. It's the lead single on May's album For My Mama and Anyone Who Looks Like Her, coming out via Spacebomb.

Hip hop through and through...until you get to the dramatic beauty of the free jazz finale, this is a track that refuses to be pinned down...and one that shows off Dixon's considerable talent.

Following lst year's The House That Got Knocked Down EP and 2018's Who Taught You to Hate Yourself? and The Importance of Self-Belief, For My Mama and Anyone Who Looks Like Her will be Dixon's first release on Spacebomb.

"The creation of 'make a poet Black' was at a pivotal moment, not only in my musical timeline, but my life," Dixon explains of the track. "There was an accumulation of stories that involved this person and when they passed, I questioned the validity of my memories. I went through a sort of an impostor syndrome and had a lot of uncomfortable moments with myself."
