Dinosaur Jr. have announced details of their twelfth studio album, Sweep It Into Space, which is due for release on the 23 April via Jagjaguwar. This news is paired with the release of the album's sensational lead single, 'I Ran Away'.

Sessions for Sweep It Into Space began towards the end of 2019, with a release date originally scheduled for mid 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic inevitably delayed it. The album - Dinosaur Jr.'s fifth since their reformation - was co-produced by the band and Kurt Vile, who plays additional 12 string guitar on 'I Ran Away'.

Of the single's unique and melodically sharp sound, as well as the effects that lockdown had on the album's production, frontman J. Mascis said: "I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that duelling twin lead sound. But the recording session was pretty well finished by the time things really hit the fan. When the lockdown happened in March, that meant I was on my own. But it was cool.”

Influenced by classic rock pioneers, but never betraying the core of the band's creative dynamism, Sweep It Into Space sets to be a further example of why Dinosaur Jr., alt-rock trailblazers, are a force to be reckoned with. Sweep It Into Space is available to pre-order now, and 'I Ran Away' is available on all streaming services.
