More about:

Mdou Moctar have shared the epic, seven-and-a-half-minute title track from their forthcoming debut Matador record Afrique Victime - and it's a sprawling, exciting, addictive triumph.

As ever Tuareg melodies and instrumentation mingle with African and American blues, plus, here, some truly enormous full-on rock'n'roll riffs. The single follows several more examples of just how compelling Afrique Victime as a whole is going to be.

"’Afrique Victime’ is a message to all of the countries with money and power who come into Africa and kill the leaders who try to empower the people and lead revolutions. This pushes the area into danger and instability and emboldens the terrorists, and it’s the people who suffer and have no justice. Africa is innocent. The French use our uranium, but 90% of the people here don't have electricity. Imagine."

Following on from last year's Ibitlan EP, Afrique Victime will be released on 21 May via Matador Records, and is available to pre-order now. 'Tal Tannam' and previous single 'Chismiten' are available on all streaming platforms.
