“With a love that only grows stronger the longer we are apart”, Kendal Calling is the latest music festival to suffer at the hands of delay to lockdown easing. The festival announced its cancellation this morning (21 June).

In a statement from the event, set to take place at the end of July, the festival organisers go on to explain that due to lack of support and advice from the government, as well as a the government’s decision to release results from the Events Research Programme, and a lack of funding has caused them to pull the plug on this years festival, a decision that hadn’t come lightly. Without this guidance there were many aspects of the festival that were simply unplannable, which could have led to the festival being cancelled a few days before it was scheduled to begin opposed to now, a few months in advance.

“Please believe me when I say that we tried our best. Despite Kendal Calling having been denied any funding from the Cultural Recovery Fund, Restart Grant, or the Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund we have worked harder than ever with a clear goal in mind - to experience the joy and love that the fields we know so well are famous for. I think we speak for all of us when I say - we needed this.”

Kendal Calling will now take place from the 28 June - 21 July 2022.
