More about:

The metal scene was rocked with the heartbreaking news late last night (27 July 2021), that Slipknot founder and ex-drummer Joey Jordison had passed away in his sleep. He was 46 years old.

Joey had provided the ferocious backbeat to the Iowan nonet since the band's inception in 1995 until his untimely departure in 2013. He had been battling a neurological disease, transverse myelitis, that had severely impacted his ability to play - meaning that he was replaced by Jay Weinberg in 2014.

Joey was an incredibly talented and multi-faceted musician - mastering the guitar, bass and most notably becoming one of the greatest drummers of his generation. He was Slipknot’s focal point - their driving force who brought blast beats to the mainstream. His genre defining performances on their infamous 1999 self-titled debut and 2001’s chart topping follow up Iowa in particular are the stuff of legend, and as a result his legacy will live on forever.

On behalf of music lovers around the world, thank you Joey Jordison. There will never be another like you.

Rest in peace.
