Sheffield’s SHEAFS are back today with their new single ‘Spectator’, their first new music of 2021. Following in the footsteps of early post-punk bands like Bauhaus and the darker albums from The Cure, this ethereal cut will be sure to please fans of the genre.

The bass-driven song takes a look at the darker, voyeuristic side of our people-watching tendencies. The dark mood of the song reflects the lockdown that it was written in, with sparse guitars and constant drumbeats spurring it forward. Here’s how the band described ‘Spectator’s creation:

“Spectator is one of the most recent songs we’ve written. Even from the roughest of demos, we thought something special and captivating was there. It’s written with the idea of ‘people watching’ and playing the role of a spectator. The idea of looking at someone and not knowing who or how they truly are.”

You can see SHEAFS at London’s The Grace 2 November and at Ghost Road Fest in Leeds 7 November. They will also be supporting The Slow Reader’s Club across the UK this Autumn.
