“He’s talking at me/He’s like blah blah blah/And I’m not listening/ I’m like yeah yeah yeah” - the opening lines to ‘Blah Blah Blah’ sums up the single pretty damn well. This single is a tad painful to listen to, not just because the vocals sound like a posh kid imitating Mike Skinner, but the backing music is bloody awful too (think distorted Ordinary Boys or The Specials). For much of the song there’s little attempt to blend the vocals and music into one working layer, and when they try to, it just sounds disjointed mish-mashed. The band channel a more, albeit watered down, rave sound in B side ‘When You’re In Love’ which doesn’t grab you by the balls but is much less trying to listen to then the lead track. Yet, Middleman have the same problem again with layers of music/vocals/electronic blips that are clumsily pieced together. ‘Blah Blah Blah’, indeed.
