More about: MUNA
It’s always yee haw and never haw yee feeling about new MUNA… sorry.
Back with a new single to announce a whole new era, MUNA have shared the news that they’re new self-titled album will be landing on 24th June. Following on from the massive ‘Silk Chiffon’ featuring Phoebe Bridgers, the band launched this chapter with ‘Anything But Me’, a pop song for people who love to wear cowboy boots.
Opening on a more optimistic note, ‘Anything But Me’ is confident and defiant. From the first lyrics “you’re gonna say that I’m on a high horse / I think that my horse is regular-sized / Do you ever think maybe you’re on a pony?”, we’re instantly hooked back in with the classic witty MUNA lyrics we’ve come to love.
As the track descends into literal foot-stomping territory with a rhythm that makes you want to line-dance, it seems like the LA-based three-piece are taking steps into their happy era. Referencing the likes of country icons The Chicks while maintaining the indie-pop thread that feeds through all their prior releases. Talking about the upcoming album on Twitter, they said “this new era can feel scary bc it’s different! not as much pain and self-punishment. but we’re still muna”.
Adding a new album release to the plan for an already busy summer of festivals and international shows, we can’t wait to see how this new era rolls out and get back to dancing with the best of the best in sad girl pop.
