More about: Sampa The Great
Sampa The Great is back with ‘Lane’, her first new track of 2022. Featuring Denzel Curry, ‘Lane’ is a piece of soulful hip-hop that follows on from the Zambia-born artist’s critically-acclaimed 2019 debut album The Return.

Alongside the track is a video, directed by South African creatives Rharha Nembhard and Imraan Christian, which incorporates ‘Origin’, a spoken-word piece, as a prologue. It introduces us to Eve, described as “the persona and blueprint of Sampa’s highest version of self”, before ‘Lane’ itself begins, being rounded out by Denzel Curry’s feature a few minutes later.
Discussing ‘Lane’, Sampa The Great says that “We’re not going to stay in one lane, we’re going to create multiple ones...My truest self encourages me to explore different lanes, and go beyond what I think I know of myself.”
Previously this year, the 28-year-old appeared as a featured artist on her sister Mwanjé’s single ‘Wildones’, while since the release of The Return she’s also featured on tracks from Gabriel Garzón-Montano, KYE and MOONGA K. Earlier this month, she made her Coachella bow, and is set to return to the US later on this year for sets at Lollapalooza and Outsisde Lands.
Sampa is also set to embark on a range of live dates across Europe and the UK this summer, with sets at London’s Cross The Tracks Festival and the iconic Glastonbury this June.
