James Acaster is one of the most prolific comedians in the UK. With a plethora of Netflix specials and sold out shows to his name, as well as successful podcasts, movie credits and books, he is currently one of the leading voices on the UK comedy circuit. A lot of his work recently has revolved around writing about and discussing music.  Today this all comes full circle as his new musical project ‘Temps’ release their first single, ‘no,no’.

Temps is made up of James Acaster and 39 Bona Fide Genii who come together to create a bit of a mish-mash of sounds that provide a strangely futuristic-tribal sound on the song ‘no,no’. This beat creates a perfect place for the range of features who appear on the track.

Quelle Chris, whose albums ‘Guns’ and ‘Innocent Country 2’ James has featured on, provides lyrics. Xenia Rubinos, who’s song ‘Just Like I’ played a large part in James deciding 2016 was the best year for music ever and the creation of his book ‘Perfect Sound Whatever’ makes an appearance too. Also on the track are NNAMDI and Shamir, who all work together to create something that almost seems narrative driven in the different acts that make up the song.

‘No,no’ is very layered, with lyrics been sung on top of lyrics and about 30 seconds of chanting “and on” seeing the track out. It’s a lot to take in but the complexity of the song as well as the effective way that the features are used is promising. James has been talking about making music again for a while and the amount of time he has put into this song shows it’s something he plans on taking very seriously.

It will be exciting to see where Temps end up as if this first track is anything to go by, the project has nothing but potential.

Temps debut single ‘no,no’ is available to stream now.
