Have you ever seen a film that you can’t turn away from but you don’t know why? Ever read a book that you can’t put down but don’t know how to describe its addictiveness? That’s exactly what you’re going to get on Sweet Baboo’s new single ‘The Worry,’ which draws influence from kids TV to create a track that subtly stands out and sticks to you.

The music is totally inoffensive. When we say there has been influence drawn from kids TV, that isn’t inferred, it becomes abundantly clear the moment the track starts. Soft keys, gentle guitar and a steady 4/4 beat give you a sound that makes you want to clap your hands in time and paint pottery afterwards. But then there’s more than that.

It’s not ideal for a website whose purpose is to write about music, but the alluring features of this song are hard to put into words. Though that inoffensive sound is present, the tone of Sweet Baboo’s voice dips and encourages you to sing along, but not in a circle with friends, in a sticky floored venue with watered-down beer. It’s addictive in a way, the overriding joy and the underlying potential. Upon listening, it’s hard to have the song finish and not run it back.

‘The Worry’ is released ahead of the new album ‘The Wreckage,’ which is set for release on 27th January. It will bring about different sounds as songwriter Stephen Black confirms this new single is the oldest tune on there and offers a lot more than being a simple throwaway. “It took me a long time to get the lyrics right,” he said, “I wanted the lyrics to be as direct as possible. No trimmings. I think it’s me telling either myself, or my son, or both that there’s no need to worry… In my mind, the Rainbow theme tune was inspiration.”
