A Prince gig was ended by Police in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 8th) bringing to an end a marathon day of gigs for the star.

The performer was playing at First Avenue in Minnesota – a venue which he made famous in his 1984 film, ‘Purple Rain’ – when local authorities closed the gig after just an hour.

The star told those in attendance: “The authorities say we gotta go. We always listen to the authorities. I promise I'll be back."

Prince had preceded the special invite gig with a nine song performance at a local department store in support of his new cologne and a rapturous gig at Minnesota’s Target Centre Arena.

Meanwhile, Prince will release his latest album ‘Planet Earth’ on July 16th.
