Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl has praised Amy Winehouse and lent his support to the singer in the face of her recent adversities.
The frontman was speaking at last night’s Grammy awards where Wino triumphed with a massive five awards and Foo Fighters picked up two.
Grohl reckons Winehouse should be receiving attention for her brilliant musical output rather than her drugs problems etc. He explained to the BBC: “When you’re an incredibly talented hot young new artist, everybody wants to know your story and wants to see you.
“There’s a lot of pressure when you are in the spotlight. The best thing is for people to leave her alone and just let her make music.”
“I love to see her perform. We honestly wore that record out at home. My daughter loves that record and it’s a little unnerving when your two-year-old sings Rehab all day long. Weird but true.”
Ever humble, Grohl believes that Foo Fighters only scooped their two awards – Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album – out of sympathy.
He continued: “I think that maybe it’s a sympathy vote! It’s not really a popular album that sold lots of copies.
“It didn’t even really get good reviews but I think they needed a rock band and they kind of feel sorry for us.”

- What a nice guy...
- I thought ESPG was a great album!
- i know what are you talking about GROHL...ESPG is a great and outstanding album. The Pretender ranks in the likes of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Take care.
- ESPG is an awesome album. The Foo Fighters are consistently good!
- besides the first two albums and the album one by one, rest of the foo catalog is ordinary
