The Death Set is a name conjuring images of chaos, violence and anger. The first track on ‘MFDS’, ‘Negative Thinking’ is a dressed up pop song. It hurtles by at a high tempo, has chanted vocals of vociferous speed, but is just too nice to be edgy.
That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just not what it says on the tin. The minute-long blast of ‘Heard It All Before’ and ‘Intermission’, a snappy chop of dance rock, are slightly more anarchic, but lose the melodious tendency of the lead song. Maybe they should be a pop band instead of shouting ‘Mother-fucking-death-set’ all the time.
Released 11/02/08 on Counter Records.
