Apple are in talks with the world’s four major record labels about making access to their iTunes music store free in return for a adding premium to their iPods.
A report in today’s Financial Times says that negotiations are currently at a stalemate over how much Apple would have to pay to gain access to record label’s song libraries.
The deal, deemed ‘All You Can Eat’, is similar to an agreement forged between Nokia and Universal Music last year.
The mobile phone provider is already understood to be in talks with other record labels before their ‘Comes With Music’ service launches later this year.
If Apple are successful, the deal would provide a huge boost for the company’s hardware sales.
The Californian based company currently make considerably more money from the sale of hardware than they do from their music store.
