Singer Corinne Bailey Rae has thanked fans for their sympathy following the shock death of her husband at the weekend.
In a statement made through her manager the Grammy Award winner spoke for the first time since saxophonist Jason Rae’s death last weekend of a drugs overdose.
It reads, “Corinne Bailey Rae and her family have been touched by the huge amount of love and support that's flooded in from all over the world, and that is really helping all of us cope at this terrible time.
"Corinne is also very grateful for the privacy she is being given and the respect that has been paid to herself and Jason."
An inquest into Rae’s death began on Thursday, after he was found last Sunday in a flat in Leeds, where he was due to perform a gig with his band the Haggis Horns.
A man has been released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
