Coroner says genre is 'very disturbing'...
A teenage girl committed suicide because she thought the act would impress fans of emo music, an inquest has been told.
Hannah Bond, 13, hung herself from a bunk bed in her bedroom after telling her parents that she was going to kill herself.
The teenager, who was described by her mother as a “normal girl”, apparently left a suicide note which was signed with the nickname Living Disaster.
The inquest was told that the teenager had lived a double life and was a devout following of emo music.
The coroner in the inquest, Roger Sykes, said he found elements of the emo movement “very disturbing”.
Bond was a fan of My Chemical Romance and had spoken secretly on chatrooms about The Black Parade – which was also the title of the band’s last album.
According to the Telegraph, in a tribute book at the teenager’s school one pupil wrote: “I hope you enjoy the black parade.”
It emerged recently that fans of emo, which stands for emotional, were being attacked in cities across Mexico because of their appearance.
At a concert in the country last month, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way spoke directly to fans, saying the band “don’t want to see any fucking violence.”
