Amy Winehouse Arrives Hour Late To Portuguese Festival

She blames sore throat...

Amy Winehouse arrived more than an hour late for her scheduled appearance at a festival in Portugal yesterday (May 30th).

Winehouse's set at the Rock in Rio music festival, one of her first public performances of 2008, was described as “underwhelming" by the media.

Upon arrival, the singer apologised to the 90,000 strong crowd, saying she had been suffering from a sore throat.

The Associated Press reports that Winehouse had cuts on her left arm and that the crowd booed the singer before she arrived.

Yesterday it was confirmed that Winehouse would perform at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations in Hyde Park next month.

Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox and Queen are among the others confirmed for the event on June 27th.

  • Just watched (part of) the concert on the telly here in Portugal last night, and describing it as ”underwhelming” is very generous... it was just plain miserable. I love Amy’s music, but she looked just like some drunk lady that jumped from the crowd onto the stage, she looked ridiculous and didn’t sing sh*t. Terribly disappointing, I’m glad I didn’t pay a ticket for that.

  • I was at RiR just to see her and listen to her great music, but I have no words to describe what I felt during ”the most embarrassing 50 minutes of music industry” Late and out of herself, with kind of injury in arm and neck, trying to fix the height of the microphone, talking to the 90000 crowd that couldn´t understand a word she was singing; Then she tryed to play the guitar but can barely hold it’s weight, falls on stage. The show had no rhythm, no soul, and made me cry.

  • I´m glad she had does amazing backup singers that keeped themselfes busy in order to minimize the effects on the crowd, who didn´t knew if should cry or leave! She confesses that she should have cancelled the concert and recognized that her voice is terrible, but the biggest problem is that she can’t keep herself upright during the whole performance. I’m not here to juge her in any way but It was the saddest thing I ever saw... What a shame. Go to rehab, asap!
