Roseanne Cash, the daughter of the late country singer Johnny Cash, says she’s appalled that her father’s name has been used to endorse US presidential candidate John McCain.
Country singer John Rich is understood to have told a recent Republican rally in Florida that Cash would have backed Mr McCain.
He said: “Somebody's got to walk the line in the country. They've got to walk it unapologetically.
“And I'm sure Johnny Cash would have been a John McCain supporter if he was still around."
Responding to Rich’s comments on her website, Ms Cash called them “presumptuous” and asked that her father’s name wasn’t used in the election campaign “since he is clearly not here to defend or state his own allegiance."
As previously reported on Gigwise, Rich recently wrote a song backing Mr McCain, who will face Democrat Barack Obama in the race to become America’s next president.
