Mystery Jets Forced To Cut Set Short At Leeds Festival

They smash up stage in protest...

The Mystery Jets were forced to cut their set on the Radio 1/NME stage short today at Leeds Festival, prompting guitarist William Rees-Moog to smash up his microphone stand in protest.

The Eel Pie Island quintet were twenty minutes late taking to the stage, only giving the time to play a fraction of their set.

The Mystery Jets have already had to pull out of seven performances this summer due to Blaine being hospitalised for ongoing Spina Bifida treatment.  Their frustration at having to leave the stage early today surfaced just a few songs into their set.

“That’s pretty fucking outrageous,” Rees-Moog said to the crowd, after a technician informed the band that they only had eight minutes left to play.  “Why doesn’t the person who organises Leeds festival come down here now and we’ll have a word.”

Security had to escort the band off the stage after a spirited rendition of ‘Two Doors Down’, as things took a violent turn up front, with the audience booing and bottling security in a show of support for the band.

Stay tuned to Gigwise for all the latest on the last day at Leeds...

  • Is his name really Rees-Moog, last time I checked that was the name of the famous editor of the Times

  • It was pretty outrageous to be fair, the band played perhaps most of five songs in what should have been a set twice as long. Everyone can understand the restraints on time that the festival must endure to keep but, while their following may not be as big as headlining acts some paying fans will hold the band as one of their favorites and should get to see the whole set, not a fraction.
