Lily Allen has criticised “bitter” journalists over the way her on stage confrontation with Sir Elton John was reported in the media.
Allen and Sir Elton exchanged angry words as they co-hosted the GQ Men of the Year awards in London on Tuesday (September 2nd).
At one point, Sir Elton joked that he could “snort” Allen, who had been drinking throughout the ceremony, “under the table”, to which she replied: “Fuck off. I don't know what you are talking about.”
In a post on Myspace blog, Allen defended her actions and reasserted the she and Sir Elton were close friends, saying she felt “honoured” to be asked to share the stage with him.
"I'm not defending my drunkenness because I don't need to, I'm 23 it was an awards ceremony I drank the free champagne, how awful of me,” Allen wrote.
“Trying to create a feud on the other hand, and trying to make me out as being some rude little girl with a drink problem is just unfair.
“Elton and I exchanged jokes and there were no hard feelings at all, in fact neither of us gave it a second thought. It's sad that an evening enjoyed by all had to ruined by some bitter journos again.”
She went on to describe showbiz journalists as “bullies” and said she “shouldn't have to defend” her actions.
The singer also denied that her brother, Alfie, was engaged with actress Jamie Winstone, as she had told the audience.
