A remake of Mariah Carey's 'Hero' by finalists in this year's X Factor competition looks set to smash chart records this weekend.
The song, which has been recorded for the Help For Heroes charity, is on course to become the fastest selling single of 2008.
It is currently number one on the iTunes music store, as well as other leading download charts.
A spokesperson for HMV told the BBC that in a climate where single releases are struggling 'Hero' is “bucking the trend”.
Songs by artists who have featured on The X Factor have continued to dominate music charts over recent years.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Girls Aloud, who were discovered on the ITV show Popstars: The Rivals, are currently at number one on the singles chart.
