A friend of Gordon Brown - perhaps Tony Blair - could be the lucky recipient of X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's debut single this Christmas, after the Prime Minister said he planned to buy the CD.
"I think I will be buying the single as one of my Christmas presents,” Mr Brown told reporters at Downing Street today (December 19th).
The Prime Minister, a well documented fan of the talent contest, called Burke's cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' “great”.
His revelation comes just hours after Burke's mother, Melissa Bell, told a tabloid newspaper she had received a letter from Mr Brown congratulating her daughter.
He wrote in the letter: "I wanted to add my congratulations to you and all your family on Alexandra's wonderful achievement in winning the X Factor final and on what is sure to be an incredibly successful debut single.”
Burke, who won the talent contest last weekend, will top the UK charts this weekend with the song, which is already the fastest-ever selling digital download in Europe.
And as Gigwise revealed earlier, the late Jeff Buckley's cover of 'Hallelujah', released in 1994, is set to take the second spot in the Christmas charts following a campaign from fans.
