Robert Plant Heads Grammys With Five Awards

Lil Wayne, Radiohead and Coldplay also win big...

Robert Plant scooped a show-stealing five Grammy Awards at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles last night (February 8).

The Led Zeppelin legend landed the gongs for his collaboration with Alison Krauss. Amongst their awards was the record of the year for their single 'Please Read The Letter' and the showpiece album of the year for the acclaimed 'Raising Sand'.

60-year-old Plant told the crowd: "I'd like to say I'm bewildered. In the old days we would have called this selling out. But it's a good way to spend a Sunday."

Elsewhere, Coldplay scooped the prestigious song of the year award for Viva La Vida, Adele won the best new artist award ahead of Duffy, while Lil Wayne amassed an impressive four Grammys from his eight nominations.

Radiohead, who performed '15 Step' live on the night with the USC Marching Band, won the best alternative album for 'In Rainbows', while their art team took home the Grammy for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for ‘In Rainbows’ discbox.

Jennifer Hudson won the best R&B Grammy for her eponymous debut album just months after her mother, brother and nephew were tragically murdered.

Clearly emotional, Hudson told the crowd: "I don't really know what to say, I'm just in awe right now.

"I would like to thank my family in heaven and those that are here today. I just don't know where to start. Everybody, thank you all."

U2 opened the performances on the night with a rendition of their upcoming single 'Get On Yer Boots' and later Paul McCartney performed The Beatles classic 'I Saw Her Standing There' with Dave Grohl on drums.

The Beatle went home empty handed on the evening, however, when he missed out on best male vocal performance to John Mayer.

Other winners at the sprawling ceremony included Daft Punk, Ne-Yo, Peter Gabriel and Kanye West & Estelle.
