The vandals who destroyed a John Lennon statue in Spain have been criticised by a Beatles spokesperson.
The bronze sculpture was erected just two years ago in the city of Almeria, where Lennon wrote The Beatles classic 'Strawberry Fields Forever' back in 1966.
A spokesperson from the Beatles Story in Liverpool told Gigwise: “It’s a great shame that vandals have chosen to damage John’s statue in this way.
“John spent 2 months in Almeria in 1966 while he filmed ‘How I Won The War’ during which he wrote what many people regard as the greatest Beatles song. With Ringo’s topiary sculpture losing it’s head last year it’s been a bad time for Beatles statues.”
According to the Daily Mirror, officials at the town hall in Almeria are planning to remove the statue altogether because of the persistent vandalism.
