Woodstock Co-Founder 'Planning 40th Anniversary Event'

For New York...

One of the co-founders of the Woodstock festival is considering resurrecting the event to mark its 40th anniversary.

Michael Lang told The Times newspaper that the chances of reprising the infamous event were “probable”.

But he warned that he had hadn't yet developed a clear picture of what it would entail.

The first Woodstock festival took place in Bethel, New York State in 1969 and featured performances from the likes of The Who.

A previous attempt to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the festival in 1999 was marred when fans began lighting fires.

In an interview with Billboard, Lang said he wanted the anniversary festival to be “a free event” and boast a line up of “legacy bands”.

A number of different venues, including New York's Central Park, have been earmarked as a potential site for the festival.
