Madonna has spoken to fans on the micro-blogging service Twitter.
The singer answered a series of messages via her manager Guy Oseary's account.
Oseary, who used Twitter earlier this month to obtain fan suggestions for the singer's greatest hits album, introduced Madonna to her fans.
He wrote: “Madonna wants to thank all of you that took the time to send in their thoughts for g-hits album. We will be online for the next 10 minutes.”
The singer then answered five messages, including one from a user who said they were happy the singer was single again, alluding to her recent divorce from film director Guy Ritchie.
Madonna replied: “NOT AS GLAD AS I AM! M…………”
In another tweet, Madonna told a fan to “stop feeling sorry for yourself”.
She also responded to a tweet from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who said he loved the singer.
“You obviously love Britney more cause you made an opening film for her show and not mine,” the singer wrote. “I still love you, -going to sleep! -M”
In her final message, the Madonna wrote: “Thanks for your love and support.. signing off.. I need my beauty rest.. -love mmmmmmmmmmmm.”
Madonna's forthcoming greatest hits album, her last with Warner Records, is due to be released this autumn.
The singer's publicist Liz Rosenberg said recently that Madonna was “excited” about the release, which could include new material.
