- More The Beatles
Sir Paul McCartney helped unveil his late Beatles bandmate George Harrison’s star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday (April 14).
Harrison's widow Olivia and son Dhani were also present at the unveiling ceremony outside the Capitol Records building in Los Angeles.
Olivia said her husband, who died of cancer in 2001, was "a beautiful, mystical man living in a material world".
Tom Petty and Hollywood actor Tom Hanks also joined hundreds of Beatles fans at the event.
"George Harrison held the future in the guitar in his hands and it had six strings,” Hanks told the BBC. “Let us thank Leo Fender, who brought electricity to music.
"Let us thank them all for bringing us George. Every record was an event, every cut was an opera, the entire story told ours.
“All things must pass, sure. But George is going to live forever."
The Beatles have a collective star on the Walk of Fame, but only Harrison and his late bandmate John Lennon also have their own.
Sir Paul’s individual star has been granted, but a date for the unveiling ceremony has yet to be set.
