Eleven People Killed At Moroccan Music Festival

Up to eleven people have been killed and a further 40 injured at a festival in Morocco.

The incident occurred at the Mawazine festival in Rabat on Saturday night (May 23) after a fence collapsed just as the event was finishing.

The 70,000 attendees were leaving the Hay Nahda stadium in the city when a rush to the exit caused the fence to collapse, a resulting stampede caused the deaths and injuries.

The blame for the incident has yet to be established but fans inside the stadium said the Police caused the incident by making people leave through areas that weren't supposed to be exits.

However, local Governor Hassan Lamrani blamed the fans, saying: At the end of the concert and despite the existence of seven gates, a group of citizens decided to go over the metal barriers to have a quick exit."

According to Reurters local Police have confirmed that the dead included five women, four men and two children.
