Influential blues singer Koko Taylor has died at the age of 80.
Popularly known as the Queen of the Blues, the legend – real name Cora Walton – died yesterday (June 3) at a Chicago hospital.
A month ago, Taylor underwent an operation after suffering gastrointestinal bleeding but failed to fully recover.
Her last live performance was less than a month ago on May 7 at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, Tennessee.
Taylor enjoyed a glittering 50 year music career, one that earned her a Grammy Award for her 1985 album 'Queen of the Blues' and saw her inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1997.
She has also appeared in some movies, most notably the 1990 film 'Wild At Heart' alongside Nicolas Cage.
