MySpace has confirmed its purchase of online music service imeem.
The company, launched in 2003, will now be migrated into the social-networking website's new music service, MySpace Music.
The platform gives users unlimited, free streaming of music and videos, and the ability to share playlists online.
imeem – a San Francisco based start-up – proved popular because it allowed its 16 million users to stream and share music for free.
The ad-supported service also allowed users to stream songs on websites and listen to internet radio.
MySpace chief executive Owen Van Natta said: "This deal will allow us to leverage imeem's industry leading technology and over time, meaningfully integrate their products into the MySpace Music experience."
MySpace has already begun re-directing imeem's users to MySpace Music, which launched last week.
