Rage Against The Machine vs X Factor Christmas Chart Race Is On

The race for the Christmas number one is on with downloads of Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' now eligible for next Sunday's chart.

The Facebook group urging people to buy Zack de la Rocha and co.'s 1992 rock anthem is listing several outlets to download the track from before Saturday December 19 at 23.59pm.

The track has almost a 24hour advantage over the X Factor winner's cover of Miley Cyrus' vomit-inducing 'The Climb', which goes on sale digitally immediately after tonight's final and physically tomorrow.

Tracy Morter, who started the campaign with her husband Jon, told Gigwise: “If we pull this off it may wipe they slate clean. I'd love to see in future all artists - especially those starting out - have a fair chance of getting a festive chart topper. There's room for all musical genres in the chart.”

At the time of writing this, the Facebook group has an impressive 692,000 members.

Bookmakers have now stopped taking bets on the Christmas no.1 with William Hill listing 'Killing In The Name' at 10/3 second favourites behind the X Factor at 1/5.
