Pete Doherty's close friend and member of the Goldsmith dynasty, Robyn Whitehead, has died of a suspected drugs overdose at the age of 27.

The body of Ms Whitehead was discovered slumped in her flat in Hackney, East London on Sunday morning.

As the BBC reports, drugs paraphernalia was discovered around her body although the exact cause of her death is yet to be ascertained.

A photographer and film-maker, Ms Whitehead had recently directed the Libertines documentary The Road To Albion.

A police spokesperson confirmed yesterday: "The woman was 27 and from the Northampton area. Next of kin have been informed.

"We are awaiting formal identification. A post-mortem will be carried out in due course."

Ms Whitehead was the granddaughter of the late Teddy Goldsmith, the older brother of billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith.

The news comes a day after Pete Doherty was fined £750 for taking 13 wraps of heroin into court with him.
